Learning To Play The Clarinet

A Guide to Playing the Clarinet Many people choose the clarinet when they want to learn to play a new musical instrument. It is a woodwind instrument and it is one of the most popular instruments out there. Many people play it in marching bands and other types of bands. One common reason that people choose this instrument is because it is one of the easier instruments to learn to play. It... Continue Reading

Two of my three children have had music instruction at First Conservatory of LaGrange, my daughter had cello lessons with Ingrid Krizan and my youngest son had piano lessons with Olga Sklyanskaja. I cannot say enough about the wonderful experiences both of my kids had learning their instrument, the instructors, and the level of skill they developed due to the quality of the programs and the instructors. My daughter stopped cello lessons due to conflicting schedules, but she still plays in the school orchestra, she is a senior at LT now, and has been playing since the 4th grade. My son and I were both sad to lose Olga when she stopped teaching here. She was absolutely wonderful with him and she had been his teacher from age four through 5th grade. Because of Olga's techniques and patience, he had won a major Sonatina competition downtown when he was just nine years old - competing against dozens of children several years older than he. Since Olga's departure, we have not been able to schedule with a new teacher on our regular day, as we have other commitments that conflict. I am not giving up though, I think we will be back soon! The experiences my kids have had at First Conservatory broadened their interests in other instruments as well. My son started playing the viola in 4th grade and is in the school district orchestra. And my daughter is learning to play the guitar and piano on her own. My other son plays trumpet in the school band. We never signed him up for private lessons because at the time he started, there were no openings at First Conservatory. He enjoys his instrument, and plays well, but I think lessons would have helped him earlier on. I cannot say enough about First Conservatory. The teachers are friendly, the instruction is excellent. I wish I had something like this when I was taking piano lessons!
